KUALA LUMPUR : Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil's lead legal counsel today said PKR Strategy Director Rafizi Ramli and PKR MP for Ampang Zuraida Kamaruddin had orchestrated a series of scathing and malicious attacks on Shahrizat.
Counsel Datuk Seri Dr. Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said they made those attacks with the objective of gaining political mileage in connection with the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).
Rafizi and Zuraida are being sued by Shahrizat for defamation and slander.
The legal suit was heard at the Kuala Lumpur High Court before Judicial Commissioner Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera.
In her statement of claims, Shahrizat said, “I believe that the Opposition calculated and designed to make me the primary target of their attacks. It has never been about getting to the truth of the NFC matters."
She said it is more to discredit and malign her as a politician, minister and Barisan Nasional leader.
“The defendants do not seem interested in the response by NFC itself but more concerned with getting my response simply because I happen to be married to the chairman of the NFC," Shahrizat said adding that this this kind of collateral culpability is simply an abuse to take ‘pot shots’ at her and the Barisan Nasional party.
Shahrizat reiterated that NFC is owned by her husband and children and has nothing to do with her and neither does it have anything to do with her position or duties as Minister for Women and Family and Community Development and her role as the Wanita Umno Chief.
